Llanrwst Sprint Triathlon

It was the Llanrwst Sprint Triathlon yesterday, with 168 triathletes competing for the honours on the edge of the Snowdonia National Park..
The race consisted of a 400m swim, 30k bike and a 5km run.
The swim took place in the local Llanrwst swimming pool, with a 500m run to transition.
Gareth Jones, Arthur Connell and Owain Llyr James all competed for Evolution bikes, with Gareth first to go, followed by Arthur and Owain.

A good swim by Gareth saw him coming out of the pool in a time of 7:30. Next, and Gareth specialty, the bike saw him ride the new course in the fastest time of the day in 49:03. In the run, Gareth looked strong as he started the steep climb to the forest, returning in a time of 21:06, and an overall triathlon time of 1:17:39.

Next to go was Arthur Connell, followed a couple of minutes later by Owain. Arthur was out first in a time of 6 minutes, but hot on his heels was Owain, in the fastest swim time of the day of 4:44.

Both ran the 500m to transition through the streets of Llanrwst, and arrived together in T2.

Owain had a quick transition, which saw him start the cycle leg in front of Arthur, but after about 1kM, Arthur passed Owain and had gained a 7 minute lead by the time they reached T3, and the start of the run.

A sting at the start of the run, consisting of a 500m steep ascent to a forest track, where both battled for honours along 4kM forest trails, watched by the mountain bikers tackling the Marin Trail. Back down the steep decent to the finish saw Arthur have the 3rd fastest run time of the day in 18:49, and a total time of 1:16:31.
Owain time of 18:40, confirmed his time as 2nd fastest of the day, and a total race time of 1:22:05.
A good day for Evolution Bikes, saw Arthur winning the overall race, and Gareth Jones 2nd.
Owain time saw him win the U19 category, and also 11th overall.
